For many of us, we were taught that one of the only ways to survive in this world as an adult is to go to school and get a good education so that we could get our degrees and a good paying job. What they didn’t tell us was the amount of student debt that could be racked up by student loans for that education. As reported by Student Loan Hero,
“Americans owe over $1.4 trillion in student loan debt, spread out among about 44 million borrowers. That’s about $620 billion more than the total U.S. credit card debt. In fact, the average Class of 2016 graduate has $37,172 in student loan debt, up from six percent in 2015. In 2016, Americans owed nearly $1.3 Trillion in student loan debt.”
Many times we’ve even said to ourselves, “if I knew then what I know now…..”. Being someone that has an Undergraduate Degree and an MBA, it’s clear to say education was important to me. Even with both degrees under my belt, I still wasn’t satisfied nor where I wanted to be financially. I always had an entrepreneurial spirit and knew that I didn’t want to sacrifice my time working a part time job in addition to my full time job. In 2013, I got specific about what I was looking for in terms of a business. I wanted something with flexibility (I could work it on my own terms), something I could do from home or anywhere I was (I wasn’t forced to work certain hours in one location with assigned break times), and something with unlimited income potential (there would be no glass ceiling). Within two weeks of me being specific about what I wanted, I was presented with the opportunity of business ownership that I could startup from HOME with no guidelines on when I had to work! That was golden for me because I wanted to create my schedule myself.
I was first introduced to the network marketing industry years ago. At the time, I was in my Undergraduate program obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice so the industry was nothing more than a hobby for me back then and I didn’t take it serious. With all network marketing companies come at least two sides to the business. One side being the products and/or services the company provides, and the other side being the ability to build a team of consultants within that company. It wasn’t until my current network marketing company that I truly realized how powerful network marketing was and how it has changed my life. Not to mention the benefits that it provides. Many people have negative thoughts on the industry, and that’s usually because of the opinions of others or because of their own “bad” experience with it. Many times, people don’t work it as the “business” that it is so it never pays them like a business. They treat it like a “hobby” and essentially end up getting paid hobby money and they walk away saying “it doesn’t work” when the truth of the matter was “they didn’t work IT”. My goal is to share with you some of the reasons it made sense for me.
1. LOW STARTUP INVESTMENT
You can generally get started for under $1000. When compared to a traditional brick and mortar business, which would have been exponentially higher to startup, working my business from home made sense for me. I had the potential to create a full time income working from home whenever I wanted.
2. WORK FROM ANYWHERE
As long as you have WiFi and an electronic device (i.e. smartphone, tablet, or laptop) you can work from anywhere in the world. Your business doesn’t have to stop just because you go on vacation. That was another advantage for me because I didn’t have to worry about the demand of being at a physical location had I went the brick and mortar route. Because my business is strictly online, I have total freedom of when I work and how many hours I work. It’s what many business owners call the “laptop lifestyle”.
3. SCHEDULE FLEXIBILITY
You create your own schedule. You don’t have to worry about someone telling you when to start or end your workday, or even worse, when you can take a break or lunch. You don’t have to get approved time off if you want to travel or spend time with your family and that’s because you own your time, not an employer. Having this type of schedule flexibility gives you options on how you can spend your time. One thing I will point out though, is that it still takes discipline to run your business effectively, even when you set your own hours. You have to be able to find that balance so that your productivity in your business doesn’t suffer.
4. UNLIMITED INCOME POTENTIAL
When you work for someone else, there is ALWAYS a glass ceiling. Once your income reaches a certain amount, they will not pay you anymore money for your particular position. Having your own business from home with unlimited income potential gives you the option of earning however much you want. Your income is completely up to the amount of work and time you put into your business. There is no glass ceiling. This was huge for me because I knew that with the goals I had laid out, it was going to take some major funds to help bring it to fruition.
5. ABILITY TO TRAVEL MORE
Because I already had a love for traveling, being able to travel more than I already was, made this option even sweeter for me. Because of the schedule flexibility I talked about, that gave me the option of creating my schedule in a way that would allow me to travel when I wanted to. Not only was there an option for me to have unlimited income, but also the option of traveling MORE!!!! Oh how I love options!
It was important for me to find something that worked with my current schedule and that still gave me the benefits I was looking for. Business ownership isn’t for everyone. It’s definitely something that your heart must be in to make it work coupled with the discipline that is necessary for it to be a success.
