Do you have a morning routine that gets you going and ready for your day? I didn’t always have one. It wasn’t until I became an Entrepreneur that I realized the importance of having a daily routine. My mornings used to be a mess. I would wake up and immediately reach for my cell phone to check social media. Sometimes I would be scrolling before I even got out of bed. A few minutes could turn into an hour of scrolling to see what everyone else was up to. Then one day, I got my hands on The Miracle Morning book by Hal Elrod. That’s when I discovered how much time I had been wasting reaching for my cell phone first thing in the morning. It’s also when I discovered why I needed to start my morning routine that very day. This book helped me create my own powerful morning routine that I still do today. In this post, I’m going to share with you 5 Steps to A Powerful Morning Routine.
1. Prayer & Devotion
This by far, is the #1 thing I do in my morning routine. Spending this time in prayer and devotion, while studying my Bible creates a peace and joy inside of me. It brings me peace to know that I am surrendering my day over to God first and it’s also a chance for me to express my gratitude toward the blessings he’s given me, starting with the blessing of seeing another day. When I turn my day over to him, I know that he will be with me throughout my day.
2. Personal Development Reading
Do you have certain areas that you would like to grow in? Are there certain healthy habits that you want to develop, or are there some bad habits that you’re ready to break? Devoting daily time to reading a personal development book has helped me break bad habits, get my finances in order, buy my first house (which I closed on earlier this year), grow my professional network, and so much more. If you spent 15 minutes per day reading a personal development book, that equals 5,475 minutes per year that you’ve personally developed. Think about the impact that will make on your life. If you’re looking for some new books to read, or looking to personally develop, I’ve got you covered with my list of recommended books.
3. Affirmations
These are statements that affirm how you view yourself and the life you’re creating. Speaking daily affirmations out loud, to yourself, will change your life. They will create a powerful belief within you, if you believe the words you are saying to yourself. Your thoughts will become your words, which will eventually become your actions. When I do my morning affirmations, I stand in front of the mirror and say them out loud so that my mind will register what my mouth is saying and will attract that which I speak into my life. This action is what manifests our intentions into our lives. This is why we must watch the words we speak because of the power that lies behind our words. All you have to do is grab you a pen and paper and start writing out a list of affirmations that you will say out loud and then say them. Some examples may be:
“I attract positive energy and people into my environment at all times.”
“I am walking into God’s best for me.”
“I am a master of money, it does not control me.”
“I reject negative thoughts and attract positive outcomes.”
4. Journaling
This is a practice that I’ve always loved to do, even as a child. Back then I called it my diary. I used to grab one of my many colored ink pens and write about different things that happened throughout my day. Whether it was an encounter with one of my friends, something that happened in school, or even a boy I may have had a crush on. Now, as an adult, we know it to be called a journal. Writing in a journal has helped me clear my mind of all the thoughts floating around so that I can free up some mental headspace. It also helps me brainstorm about different ideas, reflect on lessons I learn, and anything else that may come to mind. I sit down, take a few minutes, and begin writing it out. Plus, doing this helps me become more productive once I start working for the day. It’s a practice that I encourage you to try, if you haven’t already.
5. Exercise
This is something that should be non-negotiable for us all and it’s also one of my favorites in these 5 Steps to A Powerful Morning Routine. Once I get my exercise in for the day, I’m full of energy and ready to attack my day, in a productive way of course. Getting in quality and consistent exercise will help us live healthy lives for years to come, especially with so many people battling illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, to name a few.
Eating healthier and regular exercise has made an impact on my life in several ways. Three years ago, I made the decision to begin a pescatarian lifestyle. It has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. In the beginning, it was a little challenging at first, but it got easier over time. As a result, I rarely ever have issues getting sick because of my strong immune system, and changing the foods in my diet. I was able to stop taking my allergy shots, and I could tell the difference in my energy levels and productivity. This lifestyle, along with exercising regularly, has been a big part of my morning routine.
These are just 5 Steps to A Powerful Morning Routine, however, you may have other steps that you want to add to your routine. My goal was to share with you some of my steps and give you an idea of how you can create your Miracle Morning too.
