Do you sometimes feel like there is not enough hours in the day? Being “busy” usually seems to be a common theme for you, right? Do you find yourself turning down invitations by others by claiming “I’m too busy” to do this or that? Work, school, family duties, ministry, running businesses, etc., may cause you to neglect your body in certain areas. When this happens, this may hurt you more than you realize. Which is exactly why I’m writing this post, to give you some ways that you can show your body some self-care love. The foods you eat, the ways you spend your time, the pampering you give yourself, or the mental things you can do all play a role. Whatever the case, I encourage you to take some time out to feed your body with what it needs, a good ol’ dose of self-care love!

1. GET ENOUGH SLEEP

When you don’t get the right amount of sleep each night it can change so much about your day. Some of the things that may take a hit will be your health, energy, productivity, creativity, and your relationships and interactions with others.  The benefits of getting enough sleep may include reduced stress, improved mood, sharpened attention, and improved concentration and productivity. The body requires sleep, so if being part of #teamnosleep is a must for you, there could be long term effects that might negatively impact you down the line. I’ll admit, there have been many times when I would force my body to run on 3 or 4 hours of sleep. Once I started paying closer attention to the downfall of my lack of sleep, I decided to make some changes. It made one heck of a difference.  So the next time you lay your head down, plan to get at least 7 hours of quality sleep, if possible.

2. LISTEN TO MUSIC YOU ENJOY

When I complete my daily morning routine, I have a certain playlist that I listen to. It helps set the tone for my day and my energy. I choose to listen to a more upbeat playlist that invokes positive energy.  Doing this gets me moving and excited for the day ahead. When you’re listening to music that you enjoy, it actually goes with reason number one above by helping you sleep better. It also makes you happier and increases your mood to a more positive one. Create a playlist that gets you excited so you can change the entire direction of how your day will go.

3. JOURNALING

This, by far, is one of my favorite ways to reflect on my day. This is especially useful when I’m traveling.  I’m able to write down much of what I experienced while traveling to different places. Keeping a journal will help you strengthen your self-discipline, build your confidence, and improve your communication skills. My personal favorite benefit of journaling is self-discovery. You learn so much about yourself when you take the time to journal. The best part is that there is no right or wrong way on how to do it.  Do what works best for you.

4. MAKE ROOM IN YOUR SCHEDULE TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW

Whether it be a new skill, a new language, or even a new hobby, each of these can be beneficial. For example, learning another language helps keep brain cells active and gives us a sense of accomplishment. This is because we are learning something new. One of the languages that I vow to learn is Spanish. Because I love to travel, it would be an advantage for me to learn the language. Especially since some of the places I visit, speak Spanish as the primary language. Learning something new can always evoke happy feelings because of the goal being accomplished.

5. DEVELOP A MORNING ROUTINE

This has been something that has been an absolute game changer for the tone of my day. My Morning Routine is the very first thing I do when I wake up. Some of the things my morning routine consists of is prayer/devotion, 1 hour of cardio, goal setting, personal development reading, checking/responding to emails and social media notifications, taking my Rebalance Supplement (which helps regulate my immune system), and gratitude journaling. Because my morning is loaded with so much positive productivity, it helps my mood and focus in so many ways. It also serves as a form of self-discipline for me. Sometimes it may be hard to get through the entire routine because of potential distractions. I always turn my phone off and focus solely on my routine because it is that important to me. Reducing stress also plays a part in why my morning routines are so critical to my day.
