Did you know that most heart attacks occur on Mondays? There are various statements out there explaining why. It’s no secret that many people begin their dread of seeing Mondays, by Sunday afternoon. You know that feeling you get when you realize your weekend is coming to a close? Add to that, the fact that your work week reality is right around the corner? In this post I’ll be showing you 7 Ways to Fall in Love With Your Job Again.

1. Plan A Social Outing Outside Work Hours On A Regular Basis

This gives you the chance to get to know your colleagues on a personal level. You can learn more about their families or their interests and values. You can also learn the things you may have in common. Knowing some of these things can even help you build a better working relationship with them. As a matter of fact, understanding more about each other may help you get more creative. You might begin to brainstorm and come up with new ideas that can help you work even better together.

From a different view, you might be the type of person that has no desire to get to know your coworkers better. That approach won’t do you any good in the long run, especially if you want to further your career and promote upward. Getting to know them on another level will only strengthen your working relationship.

2. Read Books to Learn More About Your Industry

One of the best ways to embrace your job is to learn as much as you can about your industry. Once you learn more information, figure out ways you may be able to apply the new info to your daily responsibilities. This can also help you learn new skills to do your job even better. If you want to have a greater appreciation for your job, being open to expanding your knowledge will take you further than you may realize.

3. Go Above and Beyond What Your Role Requires

Don’t wait until you are asked to do something to get it done. Take the initiative on your own. This will show your willingness to do more than is required. This will also show that you do your job with a proactive approach. If you see a need, you fill it. You don’t wait until something requires a reactive response. Operating this way can potentially save you from having to do more work down the line. Plus this shows that you understand the company’s bigger vision on a deeper level. You understand the impact your work has on the company as a whole. That promotion or raise you’ve been seeking, can be even closer when you start implementing these ways to fall in love with your job again.

4. Network With People in Other Departments

Don’t limit yourself to just the people in your department. Developing relationships across your organization can benefit you in several ways. For example, when you start to learn more about what other departments do, this can be an avenue to explore when you are ready to try something different within your company. If you’re already building the right relationships across the organization, your name may be top of mind whenever a hiring manager is looking to hire someone with your level of skills and experience.

5. Join An Employee or Network Resource Group

These Employee Resource Groups contribute to the positive outcomes of a company’s inclusion and diversity strategies. In a world filled with so much crime, hate, and other negative actions, these resource groups help foster a sense of belonging for employees. They’re based on shared characteristics of employees within the company. They are also helpful in not only meeting people across your organization, but they’re also a way to meet more people outside your organization. This is especially helpful if you join a group that does a lot in your local community. Plus, this is another opportunity for you to foster new relationships with key leaders at your organization.

When you get intentional about getting involved with the right people and with the right intentions, this is an opportunity for you to further your professional development. If your company doesn’t have this type of group available, you may want to see what you can do to start one. Check out this post from Forbes that will help you understand How to Start An Employee Resource Group at Your Organization. Remember the idea is to give you 7 Ways to Fall in Love With Your Job Again. This is one of the ways that I enjoy most. Mainly because of the professional relationships I’ve been able to form.

6. Attend Professional Development Events

One of the worst things you can do is to stop growing, especially at your job. Some people make a decision to only do the minimum that is required from them at work and they don’t do what’s necessary to evolve or grow. This is a dangerous situation to be in, especially if you want to eventually promote to another role. Professional development events such as seminars or conferences are a great way for you to learn new skills or even grow existing skills. The more you can learn and apply to your job, will only benefit you and your company in the long run. Plus, this gives you an opportunity to add more skills and experience to your resume.

7. Give A Compliment to At Least One Coworker Per Day

I’ve never met someone that doesn’t appreciate a compliment. Instead of dreading another Monday rolling around, decide to compliment the first person you see when you arrive at work. If you don’t feel comfortable giving them a compliment, at least greet them with a smile and a hello. Start your day with a positive attitude and you will probably notice a shift in your overall mindset throughout the rest of your day. If you do this on a daily basis, you’ll see the shift in how you feel about your work on a day to day basis. A smile or a compliment might be exactly what someone needs to hear because you never know what someone else is going through. Your kindness might completely change any negative thoughts or things happening around them.

When you start practicing these 7 Ways to Fall in Love With Your Job Again, you should start to notice greater productivity, more beneficial working relationships, and a greater responsibility to do a job well done! I’m not saying these positive changes might occur right away, but in time, you will see the difference if you’re consistent with them.
