Every new online entrepreneur struggles to write consistently or produce the right type of content for their audience. This can be writing in the form of blog posts, emails, or even social media copy. This struggle is especially true for many solopreneurs. You’re going to learn 3 easy ways to create consistent content so you can be strategic in your content marketing.

We get stuck wondering things like, “what should I write about?” or “is this a topic that my audience would even want to know more about?”

When you’re unsure what to do, it’s hard to move forward.

The good news is, you can easily bring order to the chaos by planning your content ahead of time.

In this post, I’ll define content marketing and provide 3 easy ways to create consistent content for your business. My hope is that this will give you a roadmap so you can get started with creating content that reaches your ideal clients.

The Content Marketing Institute, an online marketing source for all things content marketing related, defines content marketing as:

A strategic marketing approach, focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience – and ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.”

The truth is, there is no “one” way to create your content marketing plan. The idea is for you to create content that centers around your expertise or a topic you are passionate about. You then choose a medium to deliver your content. Some medium examples may be blog posts, video content, or social media.

In other words:

There are several types of posts you should write to get more traffic.

The added benefit is, you’ll have plenty of topics to discuss when you create an actual content marketing plan.

Stay Inspired – the first content marketing ingredient

Pay attention to the conversations going on around you. You are guaranteed to get some inspiration and content ideas that will be helpful for your audience. Social media is a prime place to get inspiration and direction for content ideas. You can also tap into sites like reddit or quora for more ideas.

This is a crucial component because you won’t always be self-motivated to create content. During those times, getting inspiration from people, circumstances, and things around you, will keep your creative juices flowing.

Many people who are new to creating content start out on the right track but then get stuck because they haven’t tapped into different ways to get inspired. Many times, they don’t know where to start. And then they wind up wasting a lot of time.

For example, the key to writing blog posts quickly is to do your topic research first.

To get started here, store your blog ideas in a spreadsheet. This list of ideas will continue to grow and as new ideas come up, make sure you add them to your spreadsheet.

Then when it’s time for you to write a new blog post, you can look through the ideas you’ve added to your spreadsheet.

Make It A Priority – the second ingredient

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “post and ghost” on social media. If not, it’s when you make a post and disappear from social media for days, weeks, or even months at a time.

Your posting and blogging is sporadic with no real direction. If you want your content to have impact and reach its intended audience, your content strategy must be a priority.

If you’ve spent hours creating content but something still feels off – like you’re not getting traction, this is likely the piece that’s missing.

Without making this a priority, you can write blog post after blog post and still not get the type of traffic you want.

What can you do?

A really useful technique for brainstorming content topics is brain dumping.

This is when you set a timer for 10-15 minutes and you just write down several ideas and thoughts that come to mind. These are ideas and thoughts that are related to your ideal audience.

You may write down some of their biggest pain points, coupled with your solutions for them.

The idea is for you to just write, without any editing. The ideas will be free flowing and you’re taking them from your mind and putting them onto paper.

Making this technique a priority on a regular basis, will help you keep fresh content ideas flowing. Keep a journal or digital notebook close by so it will be easier for you to jot down your ideas as the come.

Have a Plan – the third ingredient

Using a content calendar will help you keep your content organized.

When you plan out your content, you’re better able to connect with your audience, build engagement, and grow your brand awareness. These are metrics you can track which are all driven by your content planning.

Here’s where you’ll really start to bring it all together and create a killer content strategy.

Of course, this will take some time. Consider setting aside a certain day of the week so you can brain dump and write out your content ideas. You can do this once a week or even once a month.

The approach you can use to set aside time is:

  • Pick a day each week you’ll use to brainstorm your ideas
  • Then decide the amount of time you want to spend brain dumping your ideas and put that day and time on your calendar and commit to it
  • Then, in order to build engagement with your audience, just start creating content that helps ease some of their pain points

Once you’re done, you’ll be well on your way to growing your audience and increasing your brand awareness.

There you have it! The 3 components of your perfect content marketing strategy. It may sound like a lot, but like most things practice makes perfect. Just focus on growing your list of ideas you can write about. This will help you create a vault of topics, inform Google what you’re all about, and start ranking as an expert in your industry.
